An Ickenham health care assistant will walk 106km in 24 hours to raise money for Harlington Hospice.

Jenny Woodward, 43, is taking part in the Isle of Wight Challenge on Saturday May 2 to support families in the Uxbridge, Ruislip, Ickenham and Pinner areas.

Ms Woodward, who has worked at the hospice since last October, has so far raised £323 of her £500 target.

She said: “Last year I walked from London to Brighton to support Cancer Research, after my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer.”

Ms Woodward, who trains with her father, a founder of Hillingdon Ramblers, is looking forward to the challenge after last year completing London to Brighton in 33 hours.

Her department, Harlington Hospice at Home, supports people in the final weeks of life to remain at home, so they are able to spend their final days in familiar surroundings with their family.

She said: "We support many families through extremely emotional and difficult times and the hospice provides so much care and support to patients and their families.

"Please support me to raise some funds for them!"

The hospice, based at Lansdowne House, Harlington, provides nursing care for 130-150 families each year and provides emotional support and counselling to those affected.
