The victim of a horrific axe attack in a Hounslow pub insists he 'feels sorry' for his attacker after the man was handed an eight-year jail term for the 'moment of madness'.

British Airways engineer Vincent Eggleston, 34, was sentenced on Monday for brutally assaulting fellow drinker Sohail Nawaz at the Earl Haig, in Bath Road, on April 11.

But Mr Nawaz, whose career as a chauffeur has now been wrecked by dizzy spells and blackouts, said he felt no pleasure in the sentence because the incident had 'ruined both our lives'.

"I feel sorry for him," he told the Chronicle. "It was a completely unprovoked attack and for five minutes of madness he will have to pay with all that time in prison. It is sad."

Mr Nawaz suffered a black eye, an injury to the top of his head and considerable bruising. He spent two days in hospital but insists he does not harbour any resentment towards Eggleston.
