Harrow Council signed a new tree maintenance deal this month with Glendale Services which is hoped to ensure that paths and areas with low hanging trees are pruned more regularly.

As a part of the agreement the company will also provide two apprenticeships and four work experience places for school children in the borough during the four-year contract.

Cabinet member for environment, crime and community safety, Councillor Varsha Parmar (Labour) said: “The health of local residents is important to me and by managing our stock better more people will enjoy these spaces.

“As a council we are committed to creating more opportunities for the young people in the borough.

“This is the first stage in this process and as a council we will also be announcing a number of new apprentices shortly.”
