Hugh Grant and Holly Willoughby will tomorrow (Wednesday, June 18) choose the winners of a short film competition launched by opponents of a third runway at Heathrow.

The actor and TV presenter are among a celebrity judging panel, also including broadcaster Gyles Brandreth, for the No Ifs No Buts Film Competition.

More than 50 submissions were received for the contest, which asked entrants to produce videos showing in no more than two minutes why Heathrow should not be expanded.

The best 10 entries are due to be screened at Richmond Theatre tomorrow night to an audience of 800 people, after which the judges will announce the winner of the £10,000 first prize.

The competition is named after a quote by David Cameron in 2009, before he became prime minister, when he sad: "The third runway at Heathrow is not going ahead, no ifs, no buts."

Less than three years later, Mr Cameron's government set up the Airports Commission to consider the case for aviation expansion, including the possibility of an extra runway at Heathrow.

Members of the Airports Commision, who are due to make their final recommendations next summer, visited Beavers Community Primary School in Hounslow this morning to see for themselves the impact of aircraft noise on those living under the flight paths.

Zac Goldsmith, Conservative MP for Richmond Park, who launched the competition in conjuction with anti-expansion campaign group HACAN, said: "The response has been stunning.  We have some extraordinary submissions, and the fact that we will have a full house demonstrates yet again how strongly people feel about Heathrow expansion, and past political promises that it won’t happen.

"The arguments against are overwhelming - and growing by the day - and the movement against it means the third runway simply cannot be delivered."
