HOW embarrassing that Harrow has been condemned as one of the most miserable places to live in the UK.But are there really so many pockets of silent sadness in the borough?
Whenever research like this is released it has to be treated with caution, and people should remember that small samples and leading questions lead to results that are far from representative.
Harrow on the whole is a vibrant, leafy place to live with few areas of poverty and low level unemployment. A lot of people would disagree with the results of this research.
However,if people are genuinely more miserable here than other places then we need to establish why.If the reasons for this unhappiness extend the problems facing everybody in the current economic climate and dismal summer then it is important these problems are addressed.
Attacks like this must stop
THIS week the Observer featured a couple's chilling account of the moment they were held at gunpoint.
One thing which is apparent from the CCTV images of the men involved is that they are all disturbingly young.
In today's society, youngsters failing in our education system can quite easily pick up a knife or gun and make their money through terrorising innocent people - a prestigious career to some.
Tougher policing and tougher sentencing have to be imposed. But also, children must be taught from a young age that guns do not solve anything. Parents must give their children the strong foundations to succeed in life by avoiding a life of crime.
Somebody out there knows who these men are and we plead with them to contact the police to prevent this terrifying ordeal happening again.
