Houses prices in Hounslow rose by more than those anywhere else in London last month, according to Land Registry figures published today.

The value of the average house in the borough increased by 2.5 per cent to £356,743 in September, as prices across London fell by 0.7 per cent.

Ealing also registered one of the biggest monthly increases, of 2.1 per cent, bringing the cost of an average house there to £443,926.

Kensington & Chelsea was the only London borough in which prices fell, and even there it was only by 0.3 per cent.

But such is the astronomical price of properties in the borough, where a typical house fetches £1,341,854, it seems that small drop was enough to skewer the results for the entire capital.

Prices in Greater London are still up by 18.4 per cent on this time last year but an estate agent in Hounslow said the latest Land Registry figures could be a sign the boom is coming to an end.

Julia Quilliam, of Quilliam Property Services, in Brentford, said Land Registry figures are based on completion figures, making them about three months behind actual trends, and from her experience the market appeared to be cooling.

"Earlier in the year Hounslow was experiencing the ripple effect of the huge overseas investment in central London, and there was a lot of panic buying, but I think prices are now starting to fall and that will be the case across London," she said.

She added that while all the homes in the 27-storey tower in Brentford's Great West Quarter were snapped up soon after going on sale earlier this year, sellers were now finding it harder to shift their properties.
