A woman from Hounslow has been charged with providing advice and support to a male friend planning to travel to Syria to commit terrorism offences.

Angela Shafiq, of Orchid Gardens, Hounslow, was charged yesterday and bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court next Tuesday (September 30).

The jobless 21-year-old had been arrested on June 19, following an investigation by officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit.

She is charged under Section 5(1) of the Terrorism Act 2006 - Engaging in Conduct in Preparation for Terrorist Acts.

An address in Hounslow was one of 19 searched by counter terrorism police yesterday as they arrested nine people, one of whom is believed to be the radical preacher Anjem Choudary.
