A fire devastated the Royal British Legion club in Whitton Road, Hounslow on Saturday.

Eight fire crews were called to the incident shortly after 4.30pm and took three hours and almost 60 firefighters to extinguish the blaze.

A spokesman for the London Fire Brigade said the cause of the fire is unknown. He added: " There was a lot of smoke in the area, so we asked local people to keep their windows closed and to avoid Whitton Road."

At the height of the blaze, a 15m (50ft) plume of smoke could be seen billowing from the roof. There were no reported injuries.

Andre Gill, chairman of the Legion, was inside the building when the fire broke out, and has told getwestlondon that he is determined to keep the club running.
