THE CONTROVERSY surrounding the Brentford Festival could be calmed after the council said they are trying to get the organisers and the group who manages the park to meet.

Reacting to news that the festival may have to be moved to Ealing if a dispute over payment cannot be resolved quickly, the council said it is working with John Laing and the Brentford Festival organisers and will be arranging meetings with both of them to see how they can support the festival.

This year's festival, which was due to take place on Sunday, was cancelled after claims contracting firm John Laing Integrated Services had suddenly demanded £6,000 to hire the venue.

A council spokesperson said: "We want to support community events, and many very successful activities took place across the borough as part of our summer of celebration.

"We’ll be using those to help shape the development of an events strategy which we’ll be consulting on later in the year, which will help us to continue to support community events in the future.”
