HOMELESS kittens are hoping to find a new home as Mother's Day approaches.
Staffat the Mayhew Animal Home, Kensal Green, are hoping that Sunday March 18 will prompt people to consider adopting cats who are looking for permanent homes.
The Mayhewhas lots of kittens and cats looking for new homes. So far this year it has received 162 calls from people who no longer wish to look after their pets.
Some of thekittens hoping to find a new family this Mother’s Day are Chocolate, Pear and Syrup, who arrived at the centre after their original family said they had far too many cats already.
The tiny trio were handed over to the charity before they were three months old.
TheMayhew’s cat welfare coordinator, Joanna Puzzo, said: “It is sad to see the arrivals of so many unwanted kittens and 32 per cent of the felines in our care are under two years old. Too many people let their pet cats have a litter but soon realise that they are not willing to care for them and expect charities like The Mayhew to take them in and look after them.
"We have many wonderful kittens who we hope will find a committed loving home this Mother’s Day and be looked after for life.”
Otherkittens hoping to catch the eye of a potential adopters this Sunday are Oreo, Freckle and Chopstick. Six month old siblings who were also unwanted at only a couple of weeks old.
Therescue centre is also looking for any animal lovers keen to help out the charity while they build their new cattery roof this summer. Anyone who could consider fostering one of their cats or kittens temporarily while the construction is taking place would need to be able to commit to a period of two to three months during May to September this year.
