Thousands of people enjoyed a special day out at Portobello and Golbourne Market when it celebrated its 150th anniversary on Saturday (May 30).

A series of events took place at the historic market to mark the landmark birthday.

Shoppers on the day were treated to many treats, including a number of popular Victorian songs by costumed performance group Radio Days, and a day-long display of antique and vintage bicycles from the Veteran Cycle Club in Tavistock Square.

The market stalls and shops were festooned with 2km of bespoke 150-year bunting, while dozens of market stallholders offered exclusive one-day-only promotions.

Customers also took advantage of discounts, multi-buy offers and gifts-with-purchases, as well as limited-edition signed artwork and a raffle with two prizes of £50-worth of antique toy soldiers.

A cake donated by Hummingbird Bakery was cut at 2pm by trader Dolly Stallard.

Kensington & Chelsea Council also used the day to sign the Real Deal Charter - a pledge to keep counterfeit products off the streets.
