FIVE caring nurses are holding a party this week before they set off for a mammoth trek across the Sahara.
The Macmillan nurses at Hillingdon Hospital, who care for terminally ill patients, have been fundraising for their expedition for over a year.
Their trek is to raise money for a new Information Centre based at the Hospital, in Pield Heath Road, Hillingdon, which can be used by the community.
Claire Colman, Claire Young, Liz Bunker, Fiona Hamer and Lorraine Barton are the braves nurses who will be walking for six days for a total of 100km across the burning desert.
Lorraine said: "We have been fundraising hard and to date we have raised £16,500. We will continue to fundraise right up to the day we get on the plane so for anyone who would like to donate please go on our JustGiving website.
"Our training is going pretty well. We have been walking up the stairs at work rather then using the lifts and gradually we have been less dependant on our portable O2 cylinders.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us, colleagues, families, friends and most especially our patients."
The girls will hit the Sahara plains on February 27, but will hold a thank you party for their fundraisers this Friday, with MP John McDonnell being invited.
