THE very best hanging baskets and finely cut hedges to make the neighbours go green with envy have been decided at this year's Hillingdon in Bloom awards.

Organised by the council, it is the borough's own horticultural contest which gives recognition to local people putting forward their gardening achievements through the imaginative use of flowers, trees, shrubs and landscaping.

Councillor Sandra Jenkins, cabinet member for environment, said: “We’re delighted with the record number of people that entered this year, which shows people take real pride in their environment.

"So many of the displays were outstanding and of an extremely high standard. Thank you to all participants who have contributed to help keep Hillingdon a beautiful borough."
