A pupil at Meadow High School has been nominated for the Young Hero category for being an excellent role model to younger students.

The school could also receive a prize if 15-year-old Jordan Price turns out to be the overall Hero of Hillingdon.

Jordan, who lives in Harefield, joined the school five years ago and remembers what it was like to be a Year Seven student starting in a new, big school.

Staff at the school in Royal Lane, Hillingdon, say at times he found it quite scary and daunting and didn't always behave in an appropriate way, but over the years his behaviour has improved and now he consistently helps the new Year Sevens settle into life at Meadow.

He shows them around the school, helps them on to transport at the end of the day and has used his own personal difficulties in a positive way to point them in the right direction.

Jordan was awarded the Jack Petchey Young Achievers' Award for the month of September this year, picking up £200 to spend on resources for the school. He chose interactive software for history teaching.

Jack Petchey Foundation award winners from all over London are entered into a draw each month, and Jordan won £50 to spend on himself.

He was presented his cheque by Chris Bullock from the foundation last Friday at a celebration assembly at the school.

Jordan's teaching assistant, Lesley Daniels, said: "He has got such a kind heart. He has also recently realised that some of the students at school were wanting things to do at lunchtime so he has organised a football club to keep everyone entertained."

Headteacher, Ross Macdonald, said: "The whole school is very proud of Jordan."
