A Hillingdon councillor took part in his 153rd marathon on Sunday (April 26), running the London Marathon for Age UK Hillingdon.

Jagjit Singh, who represents the Yeading ward, has raised £705.15 and hopes to continue fundraising to reach his £2,000 target.

The Labour councillor, 55, from Hayes, completed the 26.2-mile course in four hours, 24 minutes and 31 seconds.

He said: "The weather was really good, the race was well organised and I enjoyed it throughout. The people in the crowd were so encouraging.”

Mr Singh met with Age UK Trustee, Smruti Patel, along the route and picked up water from the Hillingdon Volunteer Police Cadets at Big Ben.

He added: “I chose Age UK Hillingdon to support as I'm a local resident and wanted to support a local charity.”

Lesley McGinty, the charity's income generation and communications team leader, is immensely proud of Jagjit and what he has achieved.

She said: "He has always made it clear that he wants to help a charity which helps local people which is why he chose us.

"When an inspirational person like Jagjit supports us, it really helps us to get the message across about the wide range of services we provide for older people in the borough and obviously the money raised contributes greatly to being able to keep those services going.

"We can’t thank him enough for his outstanding effort and we hope people will help him to reach his £2,000 target."

Father-of-two Mr Singh has completed marathons on every continent, his best time in the London Marathon being four hours, six minutes.

As a “warm up”, he also ran the Hillingdon Half Marathon on April 12.
