A police officer in Hillingdon has launched a Facebook profile to seek the assistance and support of residents in locating vulnerable missing children and adults in the borough.
James Drummond is a Sergeant in Hillingdon’s Missing Person Unit and is asking the community to check out his profile and support police appeals by sharing the content on their own accounts.
He said: "People go missing for a number of reasons and it is our job to find them and ensure they get the appropriate support they need.
"As an investigative unit my team uses a wide variety of tools and resources to assist in locating missing people.
"The manner in which society communicates has developed vastly in recent years and the Met are making best use of social media as it can be a powerful way to engage with the local community and gain their help and support in finding those missing people in our area."
Last year, Hillingdon Missing Persons Unit dealt with more than 1000 cases, 585 of which related to people under the age of 18.
The Missing Person Unit is made up from specialist officers dedicated to finding those missing people.
People who follow the Facebook page will receive alerts with images of those reported missing in the borough and details of who to contact if they are seen.
Hillingdon Borough Commander Nick Downing said: "There are approximately 250,000 people living in Hillingdon and I urge everyone to look at this profile and offer to support us.
"The more people who follow the page will significantly increase the number of people committed to helping find those who need our support."
