IN RESPONSE to the letter in last week's paper regarding parking in Uxbridge High Street (Best of the web, July 2), we advise all drivers to observe road markings and signs before leaving their vehicles.

Both the parking bays and single yellow lines in Uxbridge High Street have clear signs adjacent to them which show who can use them and when parking is permitted.

The single yellow lines in the street indicate that vehicles cannot park in these areas during specific times and the double yellow lines show that vehicles cannot wait [at all]. The council does not enforce or operate the private Flex Gym car park.

Anyone who receives a parking ticket can appeal to the council. If the council decides not to cancel the ticket the individual can appeal to the parking and traffic appeals service.

CHRIS NORMAN, head of business services, Hillingdon Council, Civic Centre, High Street, Uxbridge.
