A FAMILY Fun Day held at a Heston pub last weekend raised £1,600 for charity.

Around 100 people headed to The Rose and Crown Pub on Heston Road on Saturday to enjoy a fun-filled event for a good cause.

The money was raised for children's hospice service Shooting Star CHASE after a customer suggested it would be a good charity to benefit from the pub's latest fund raising effort.

The family event ran from midday to 5pm and featured face painting, a coconut shy, a bouncy castle and games. There was also the chance to nominate someone to go in the stocks and have wet sponges thrown at them. Refreshments included Indian food and a barbecue.

Later in the evening, a band called Breaking Ranks entertained customers until late with cover versions of famous songs.

Landlady Kate Culhane said: "We do a lot for charity here, a few things a year so we decided to hold this fun day for Shooting Star hospices.

"It was great, and it was a community based thing so it was lovely to see everyone come together. It was fantastic, the atmosphere was fantastic. I'm really pleased with the amount we managed to raise."
