A MAKE-UP artist from Heston is among the candidates vying to become Lord Sugar's apprentice in the new series of the hit BBC show, which begins tonight (Tuesday, May 7).

Uzma Yakoob, of Summerhouse Avenue, is one of 16 budding entrepreneurs attempting to barter, back-stab and toady their way to a £250,000 business partnership with the bearded business mogul.

In her audition video for the hit BBC show, the 32-year-old says she can be difficult to work with and can come across as intimidating.

She also describes her path to success as 'really challenging' and says if she believes in something she will 'go to the end' to make it happen, as well as admitting to a fear of cats and dogs.

Uzma set up her cosmetics firm Sculpt Beauty aged just 18 and has worked as a make-up artist to the stars, with clients including R&B sensation Jay Sean and some of the leading lights of Bollywood. She now owns her own make-up brand.

In 2010, the Chronicle reported how her online tutorials showing women how to get the celebrity look for free had attracted hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube.

More recently she set up the non-profit organisation Ladies Confidential, which she describes as a support network to help women through whatever life may throw at them. She was also nominated for an Asian Women of Achievement Award.

The Apprentice is on BBC1 tonight at 9pm and tomorrow (Wednesday, May 8) at the same time.
