WITH the recent barrage of media reports about drug and alcohol misuse, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the future looks bleak for our young people's future health and wellbeing.

Of course, this needn't necessarily be so.

Evidence shows that drugs prevention is all about promoting healthy attitudes and behaviours in our young people by providing them with the necessary information to make informed choices, allowing them to develop positive relationships with at least one significant adult, offering them opportunities and promoting self-esteem.

There are fantastic projects out there which do all of this and more and we'd like to invite readers in Fulham and Hammersmith the opportunity to nominate them for a Mentor UK CHAMP Award.

For a chance for a project you know to win a substantial cash award please go to the charity's website at www.champawards.org.uk.

The closing date is April 21. DEREK FERGUSON
