Police in Hounslow have launched an appeal to ensure children in care are not forgotten this Christmas.

They have urged members of the public to buy gifts for youngsters aged three to 17 who are living in care homes or with foster parents.

The campaign was launched yesterday (Thursday, November 20) at the Treaty Centre in Hounslow, where officers unveiled their 'Give a Gift' Christmas tree.

Hounslow borough commander Carl Bussey said: "Please help us by supporting this worthy campaign to spread some Christmas cheer to children in care across the borough."

The campaign is being run by officers and police cadets, and Wilko got the ball rolling by donating the first gifts at yesterday's launch.

The suggested spend per gift is no more than £20, and all presents will be wrapped and delivered to children in care in time for Christmas Day.

* To donate a present, simply pick up a tagged ribbon from the tree, which will be travelling to different locations across the borough until Sunday, December 14. Alternatively you can email hounslowchristmastree@met.police.uk or click on the Met's virtual Christmas tree.
