JETS thundering over CRANFORD COMMUNITY COLLEGE helped Neel Mishra, one of the school's star A-level pupils, soar to success.

The 18-year-old, who lives in Hounslow, is off to study aeronautical engineering at Imperial College after bagging two A*s and an A.

"It's a subject I've always been interested in, and living near Heathrow's definitely been an inspiration," he said.

Neel was one of many success stories at the school, in Cranford High Street, where the A*-B pass rate was 42 per cent - up from 35 per cent in each of the previous four years.

Harsimran Sall, of Southall got four As to secure her place studying dentistry at Queen Mary, University of London.

Jagjit Kang, of Feltham, got four A*s and is heading to Warwick to study maths.

Joining him there will be Maneesh Sharma, of Hounslow, whose three As and a B were enough for a place studying maths and physics.

He claimed news about mistakes with several papers, including questions which were literally impossible to answer, had made this year particularly stressful.

"I wasn't personally affected but hearing about it changes your mentality. It makes you look at questions more carefully and worry about there being a problem," he said.

Satinder Aulakh (psychology and criminology at Birmingham City), Nikpal Johal (BCCC), Simran Kahlon (ABB, maths at Surrey) and Sobya Shaikh (ACC) were among the other pupils celebrating this morning.

Nikpal, who earned a place on a software development apprenticeship scheme with British Gas, said: "I like the fact you get a job at the end of the apprenticeship. Nowadays you hear there's high unemployment, especially among graduates, so that's important."
