John McDonnell will remain MP for Hayes & Harlington for the next five years, after winning out in the General Election.
The Labour MP retained his seat, which he has held since 1997, with 26,843 votes - 59.6% of the constituency total.
In a speech made after the results were announced, Mr McDonnell said: “It is with pride that I now look back on the fifth occasion I've been elected.
“And what we showed in Hayes & Harlington today is the diversity of our communities coming together, in peace and harmony, to have an election which produced a result which I think reflects the views of our local people.”
He added: “Whoever's in government, if they come back to try and build a third runway at Heathrow, we will resist on a cross-party basis, and I expect the person who will be elected to Uxbridge tonight to follow through the commitment that was given by John Randall and join with me in lying down in front of those bulldozers if they come.”
The final count was announced at Brunel University, in Kingston Lane, Uxbridge, at around 4am on Friday (May 8) – the first of three hotly-awaited constituency results.
Voter turnout for the constituency was 60.37% - up from 57.46% in 2010.
The Conservatives' Pearl Lewis came runner-up with 11,143 votes; UKIP's Cliff Dixon got 5,388; Liberal Democrat Satnam Khalsa won 888; and the Green Party's Alick Munro got 794 .
The number of spoiled votes was 142.
Runner-up Ms Lewis siad: “Congratulations of course to John in his next few years as an MP and keeping the seat warm for the future.
“It's been such a delight to go through this journey and actually there are some really positive things about Hayes & Harlington that I think we should champion.”
Mr McDonnell, who unsuccessfully tried to stand for his party's leadership position following Tony Blair's resignation in 2007, has been an active campaigner on a wide range of issues during his time as an MP.
These have ranged from opposing Heathrow Airport's proposed expansion to trying to secure money to rebuild Hillingdon Hospital, among many others of national concern.
