Schools in Ealing got some serious tropical flavour recently after children were introduced to Hawaiian music before going on their half-term break.

Ealing Music Service brought World Music to Schools to the borough for the 15th year running.

Every year, schools in Ealing are invited by Ealing Music Service to host exciting world music workshops for their pupils.

The choices this year were “Bollywood Brass” or “Sounds Hawaiian”.

Andy Warn of Sounds Roadshows took his instruments, costumes and heaps of enthusiasm to St Josephs Primary School in Hanwell

Professional musicians visited 20 Ealing Schools during the last two weeks of the Spring Term to excite and encourage pupils across the borough.

Andy Warn of Sounds Roadshows took his instruments, costumes and heaps of enthusiasm to St Joseph’s Primary School, in Hanwell, to the joy of the pupils.

The workshop was a great success and went down a treat with both the pupils and teachers lucky enough to be involved.

One teacher said of the World Music Festival: “I’d pay for it myself if I had to!”

Mr Warn, who brought the music of Brazil to the World Music Festival last year, said: “Our Hawaiian workshops are great fun for all ages, including the teachers. We use colourful costumes to really capture the mood of traditional Hawaiian music and introduce pupils to the background of Hawaiian traditions, culture and language."

Ealing Music Service has been organising World Music Festival for the last 15 years and it has always been a great success amongst Ealing schools.
