A TRICK and a treat rolled into one is this Hatch End girl's idea for a new scary ice cream.

Maryam Janmohamed entered a Halloween competition after seeing a newspaper advert and now her 'Blood Surprise' is one of the 10 finalists.

The eight-year-old was at Sainsbury's supermarket in Pinner on Friday to promote her recipe of red liquorice, raspberry sauce, vanilla ice cream, chocolate fangs and black food colouring.

Catherine Heginbotham, Sainsbury's store manager in Pinner, said: "I've got a feeling that her Blood Surprise recipe will be a hard one to beat. The fun bit is that if she is chosen as a winner they will actually get to see their ice-cream made and sold on shelves of Sainsbury's stores nationwide."

The I-Scream competition was launched in May through a supplement in The Times newspaper. To enter, Maryam had to describe her flavour in 50 words. The winner will be announced on August 19.
