FOOTBALL teams, indoor sports clubs, dance classes and gym goers will need a new home after it was confirmed Zoom Leisure will close at the end of September.

Users of the facility in Harrow View, Harrow, were told by letter on Thursday that lessees Nuffield Health would be surrendering the lease to landlord Kodak on the 30th of that month and the site boarded up.

However, Charanjeet Oberoi, sales and marking director of Sapnay School of Dance, had not heard of the news when contacted by the Observer.

He said: "That is shocking. I don't have anywhere else to go and that's going to mess my business up.

"We have already advertised our programme for September and people have already paid in advance for these classes.

"I have been here for five years and nobody has approached my company about this closure."

Kodak FC - a soccer side set up by workers of the photographic equipment manufacturer that now runs 14 youth teams - said in a statement: "We have been in discussions with Kodak to reach an arrangement whereby the football club can continue to play on the grounds, until such time that they are needed for redevelopment.

"We are confident of reaching a solution which enables the club to continue, given our good relationship with Kodak."

Bob Salloway, who hires a hall to run an aikido self defence martial art class, said: "Kodak now have this plot of land they can redevelop straight away.

"We don't have many leisure centres in Harrow and what's bothering me most is, if these playing these fields are taken away from the football teams, where are they going to go?"

He suggested the cost of running repairs may have led to Nuffield Health to walk away from the business.

"It's obviously a little bit run down," Mr Salloway said. "Can't you just patch it up? You don't have to spend huge amounts."

A Kodak spokeswoman said: "Nuffield Health has chosen to leave due to commercial reasons and the general maintenance of the property would be carried out by Nuffield Health.

"Kodak will take back ownership and keep the facility secure. There are no plans to demolish the building."

The Observer has contacted Nuffield Health for a statement.
