A TRAINEE accountant raised more than £1,500 for charity through the London Marathon.

David Goddard collected £1,544.47 sponsorship by finishing his first ever marathion in a time of 4h 32m.

The 22-year-old, who moved from Brentwood in Essex to work for RDP Newmans in Station Road, Harrow, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have raised so much for Guide Dogs for the Blind Association.

“It is a charity my family have been actively involved with for as long as I can remember, with my mother first becoming involved through training guide dog puppies.

“Having visited several people that are visually impaired over the years and witnessing how the dog can significantly enhance their quality of lives by enabling them to regain their freedom, it is a charity that I wish to continue to support.”

Mr Goddard, a Kilburn Cosmos RFC player who lives in Churchill Road, Willesden Green, said: “I was aiming for sub-four hours, but unfortunately tore my calves in the build-up so only managed to start running again five weeks before and it definitely showed come race day.

“I got over Tower Bridge and ‘hit the wall’. However, the crowd were absolutely unbelievable on the day.”
