Controversial plans to allow a Harrow supermarket to sell alcohol round the clock in the run-up to Christmas Eve have been withdrawn after objections.
The Tesco in Station Road, Harrow, had wanted the 24-hour licenses from December 22 to the 24th and had applied for a temporary events notice.
Councillors were due to vote on the proposal tonight but the supermarket chain withdrew their application after an objection from the borough police force.
Officers said the supermarket was in the town centre - one of the borough's hotspots for drunken violence between 1 and 3am.
In a letter Sergeant Carl Davis said Harrow "had no extra resources" to police the opening and overtime would be required.
