A teacher was found in a locked maths cupboard with a Year 11 girl student at Harrow High School and Sports College, a hearing has been told.

Emmanuel Anumihe faced an allegation of "unacceptable professional conduct" over the incident, which is alleged to have happened on May 25, 2007 at the Gayton Road, Harrow, secondary school.

The General Teaching Council (GTC) began its conduct hearing into the matter in Birmingham yesterday.

A three-man panel will decide whether Anumihe was guilty and what punishment, if any, he should face.

Headteacher Vivien Swaida and a Mr Boukhemia, believed to be a maths teacher, were listed to give evidence as witnesses for the GTC.

Anumihe, who was due to be represented by a National Union of Teachers representative, had three witnesses of his own - Karen Millar, believed to be in the school's language development department - and two others, Gavin Murdoch and Gary Bashford, although it is not known whether these are former colleagues, students or someone else.
