STUDENTS across Harrow received their A-Level results today (Thursday).

There was wide-spread celebration as many students feared they would have to go through clearing or apply again next year, facing the higher tuition fees.

Head teacher at Hatch End High School Sue Maguire was delighted with the results, especially as the new Sixth Form had its first two students accepted to Oxbridge.

Amar Chandarana, 18, achieved three As and one A* and will study Economics and Management at Oxford and Ibrahim Yate, 18, will go on to do History at Cambridge after getting two A*s and one A in History, English and Economics.

Stanmore College had over 550 offers of places at higher education colleges and universities, with good results in both A-levels and vocational courses.

Roshni Pindora, 18, studied Business, Psychology and Maths and achieved A*, A, C respectively. She will study investment finance and risk assessment at City University, which is a popular choice among the high achievers at Stanmore College.

She said: "I really didn't think I would get in, so it came as quite a shock. It's definitely the case that all the hard work paid off, I can't wait to go out and celebrate tonight."

Canons High School achieved exceptional results in the first year of running BTEC music technology, with four out of the five students achieving a distinction. Ananya Dixit, from Canons, will be the first student to go on to study for a music degree from the high school and is looking forward to starting at York University in the Autumn.

Head of Music Ian Patterson said: "They have done really well. It's a great start for them to go straight into the industry. We are very proud because they have worked so hard and put in many long hours after school and at weekends. What makes it so sweet is that they have worked so brilliantly hard and with such passion."

Adeel Hussain, who was featured in the Observer last week, achieved three Bs, meaning he will be accepted at Exeter, his first choice. The politics student will be in the Evening Standard today and possibly appear on Newsnight later this evening.
