Two nail bars in Harrow have been fined a total of £60,000 after raids uncovered Vietnamese staff not qualified to work in the UK.
Harrow Council led the raids at Pinner Nails in Marsh Road, Pinner, which was found to be employing four people not eligible to work in the UK and was fined £40,000 by the immigration service. It faces prosecution under the London Local Authorities Act for employing therapists without proper qualifications.
Kenton Nails in Kenton Road was found to be employing two illegal Vietnamese immigrants and fined £20,000. The two employees were arrested and taken away by immigration staff.
Councillor Paul Osborn, Harrow Council's head of communication, said: "People need to know that when they go to a nail bar or beauty salon they are being seen by properly trained staff. The use of illegal immigrants in Harrow businesses is something we won't tolerate."
