A MAN from Harrow has died after being stabbed through the heart in a fight at a community centre on Saturday evening.

Akilakumar Kanthasamy, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene of the alteraction in the rear car park of the New Horizons Centre building run by the Commonside Community Development Trust in Mitcham, south-west London, at 11.40pm.

Police arrested a 16-year-old in connection with the murder and he has been taken to a south London police station. No weapon has been recovered.

A post-mortem examination carried out yesterday at St George's Hospital in Tooting, south-west London, gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the heart.

An incident room has opened in Lewisham under Detective Chief Inspector Mark Dunne of the Homicide and Serious Crime Command.

DCI Dunne said: "I am appealing to anyone who was in or around the South Lodge Avenue area on Saturday night and who may have seen or heardanything around the time of the incident to call our incident room."
