A CAFE and performing space coming to a town centre park will be run by Harrow College when it opens next spring.

Lowlands Recreation Ground in Lowlands Road, Harrow, is being revamped by Harrow Council at a cost of £1.28million provided by the Mayor of London’s regeneration Outer London Fund.

Pat Carvalho, vice principal at Harrow College, said: “We are delighted to be the first tenant of Lowlands and look forward to being able to make a positive contribution to Harrow’s Town Centre and residents.”

Students will be provided with hands-on experience because the college will manage the new building that contains a stage area of about 50 sq m, a small cafe of about 16 sq m and an ‘out-of-hours’ service hatch providing hot drinks and snacks to passers-by, an 45 sq m dedicated cafe terrace and 80 sq m external performance space which can double up as extra al fresco seating for the cafe in the summer.

Harrow Council’s cabinet member for business and enterprise, Councillor Kamaljit Chana (Conservative), said: “We are very pleased to announce Harrow College will be the first tenants at what will be a fantastic asset for our town centre.

“Lowlands is one of several projects designed to breathe new life into the heart of Harrow and forms part of our vision of a cleaner and safer town centre, which is a pleasant place to live, work and visit.”

The new park will include an outdoor children’s play area and extensive landscaped grounds.
