Harrow schoolchildren will take centre stage at the Royal Opera House when they perform for Prince Charles at his 60 th birthday bash.

Thirty pupils, aged 10 to 11, from Priestmead Middle School have been practising for two months for the star-studded affair. Last year, Harrow Council even drafted in two vocal coaches to ensure the choir was note perfect for the big day.

Accompanied by the Philharmonia Orchestra and world famous conductor Owain Arwel Hughes, the children will sing the traditional Welsh folk song All through the Night. They will also perform Happy Birthday, the first time the Prince will have the greeting sung to him since Geri Halliwell mimicked Marilyn Monroe at the Prince's 50 th birthday party.

On Friday, the choir will join 200 children from schools around the country at a celebratory concert arranged by the Prince's Foundation for Children and the Arts in the Floral Hall at the Royal Opera House .

Councillor Christine Bednell, portfolio holder for children's services, said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for Harrow schoolchildren to sing with a professional orchestra, in an amazing venue - and what an honour to sing for Prince Charles."
