POLICE officers in Harrow and Brent are taking part in a London-wide campaign to crack down on neighbourhood criminals today, Thursday 24.

Operation Hawk was launched to encourage community involvement and to show that officers are acting quickly on information given to them by the community.

The MET police are targeting properties suspected of drug dealing and areas where anti-social behaviour is a wide-spread problem.

Officers in all 32 London boroughs are taking part in raid throughout the day, which began early this morning.

As of 8.30am there had been 68 arrests.

Launching the operation today, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe said: "Operation Hawk is another way to tackle criminals decisively and directly. It's all about responding to local concerns and acting on them to crack down on crime rapidly and effectively. The idea is that we take our intelligence to a magistrate ask for a warrant and 'put the doors in' as quickly as possible right across London. Communities are likely to see more operations of this kind from their Safer Neighbourhoods teams, who, through their ongoing engagement, will continue to address local crime and safety concerns to help make London safer."

In Harrow and Brent raids are continuing throughout the day and all Safer Neighbourhood Teams in the capital will be contributing to the efforts.
