CHILDREN will have a brand new playground to enjoy during their Easter school holiday.

The play area on Harefield village green will be given a £50,000 makeover in March ready for the two week break, Hillingdon Council has promised.

The work is being funded by a grant from the Chrysalis scheme’s People’s Choice Award, part of Hillingdon Council’s Feel PROUD campaign, in which people across the north of the borough voted for the project they wanted to benefit from the funding.

The Harefield playground gained the most votes, with a record number of 5,000 people choosing it from five projects to receive the money. A new floor will be put down, replacing the uneven and broken slabs that are there now, and some new play equipment will be installed, including a new roundabout, see-saw and springer.

The project is expected to take around three weeks to complete, subject to weather, and is currently out for tender.

The other short-listed improvement projects were Ickenham Hall, in Glebe Avenue, Ickenham; Long Drive Park Playground, in Long Drive, South Ruislip; the public car park, in King’s College Road, Ruislip and the 6th Eastcote Scout Hut, in Oak Grove, Eastcote.

Each year, £1million is spent on Chrysalis programmes across the borough, and this year the funding ceiling has been lifted to £100,000 per project.
