HOSPITAL staff raised hundreds of pounds by battling snow, wind and rain as they trekked 43 miles through the night to help those injured in war.

Dr Jane Canavan, a clinical research physiologist at Harefield Hospital, and her colleague, Amy Clark, a pulmonary rehabilitation and oxygen service coordinator, took part in the Walking with the Wounded charity’s Walking Home For Christmas event on December 20.

People taking part walked from their place of work, no matter how far away that may be, to their home.

The pair were joined by Dr Canavan’s husband, Benjamin Linton-Willoughby, a senior medic at Bedford Hospital, on the 16-hour trek, setting off from the hospital in Hill End Road at 4pm and arriving in Bedford in time for a well deserved breakfast.

They have raised about £400 so far, and donations are still coming in.

The charity exists to help servicemen and women rebuild their lives after suffering injuries through their work.
