A violence-plagued junction in Hanworth saw more flashing, blue lights and police tape over the weekend as a teenager was battered around the head during another street brawl.

The fight, which spilled out onto the pavement of Hounslow Road following a clash on a 111 bus, left one man injured and a 17-year-old recovering from serious head injuries at West Middlesex Hospital.

The argument between the twogroups, one of which was black and the other white and Asian, is believed to have been racially motivated.

Det Insp Jeff Minns, of Hounslow CID, said: "It is a great shame there has been more violence at this spot, which saw several nasty assaults over the summer.

"There have been improvements but the problem often seems to be groups of youths drinking in Kingston and getting into fights on their way home."

The violence, which took place in The Mount at around 4am on Sunday morning, involved around a dozen youths and is the most recent in a string of incidents which have left long-suffering local residents frightened and frustrated.

Other attacks saw a teenager stabbed in the leg and back and a man nearly lose an eye.

A father-of-two living near the scene said he was afraid to let his 16-year-old son out in the evenings in case he was targeted by gangs of teens.

"People are really frightened," said the man, who did not wish to be named. "The Old Bill can tell us all day that things are getting better but it's obvious they're not.

"These gangs are at it all the time - fighting, stabbings, kids getting mugged and attacked - over the past year this area's really changed."

After the fight, the injured teenager was taken to hospital by ambulance. He had been struck repeatedly with a blunt instrument but is expected to recover and be sent home later this week.

Straight after the assault, officers closed off Hounslow Road until the forensic examination was complete.

Detectives from Hounslow CID have already arrested one suspect and are confident they will identify more from CCTV images captured on the bus.

DI Minns said: "We will make more arrests, although there's not much we can do unless witnesses come forward.

"We'll also be working with Kingston police, the bus company and the safer neighbourhood teams to keep improving the situation around that junction."

If you have any information about the brawl, call Hounslow CID on 0208 247 6160 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 1111. All calls will be treated in confidence.
