A boy remains in critical condition in hospital after being pulled from the River Thames, near Hampton Court Palace, by the emergency services.

Footage has also emerged of the air ambulance arriving to take the 17-year-old to hospital after he got into difficulty in the water.

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed a 17-year-old boy was recovered from the river shortly before 7pm on Wednesday.

A "huge" emergency presence was spotted at the scene with fire engines, ambulances, lifeboats and police cars all in attendance.

David Stewart, 51, was cycling into Kingston when he saw the incident unfold: "I left home to cycle down to Hampton Court into Kingston.

"I saw emergency services beginning to arrive, they were initially near Hampton Court Station. This was around 6.50pm.”

Mr Stewart added: "I continued down the tow path and saw emergency services gathering near Hampton Court Palace.

"There was a narrow boat in the middle of the river. There was a lot of young people in a state of stress, who were calling out for goggles.

"I saw the air ambulance arrive opposite the river, it switched off its rotor blades.

"I saw a swimmer pulled from the water and CPR being performed on them.”
