A suspicious package thought to be a bomb caused a road to be closed and people to be shut into their homes and pubs this weekend.

The package, which turned out to be some rubbish, was reported to police at 2pm on Saturday (November 29) by a concerned member of the public who spotted it in Hammersmith Road outside the Middlesex and North West London Cadets training centre near Hammersmith Gyratory.

Police closed down the road after sending a number of officers to the scene and people were shut inside shops, houses and The Latymers pub until they reopened it at about 3.30pm.

A police spokeswoman said: “A member of the public reported a suspicious package to the police so we took all precautions and shut the road down. It turned out to be some rubbish in the street but the call was made in good faith.”
