Four members of the same family have been arrested in Southall on suspicion of the possession of firearms.

A loaded sawn-off shotgun, a berretta style handgun and rounds of ammunition hidden in the boot of a car were confiscated after officers searched the vehicle on Wednesday night.

The vehicle, a Mercedes, was found in the driveway of a residential address in Southall. A 46-year-old female and three males aged 18, 17 and 75 were arrested.

Police believe the Mercedes was stolen during a burglary about a fortnight ago from Amersham, Buckinghamshire.

All four men were arrested on suspicion of possession of firearms and the 17-year-old and 18-year-old were also arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

They were all taken to a west London police station and have since been bailed. Police are continuing their investigation.
