Ann Keen has joined the battle to save Gunnersbury Park amid claims a large section could be sold for private housing.

The Brentford & Isleworth MP said she feared the site's neighbours would 'wake up one morning to find a sea of concrete' and has launched a second petition in addition to one already started by local councillors opposing plans to build on the park and calling for all meetings about its future to be held in public.

Members of Hounslow and Ealing councils, which jointly own the land, currently sit in private as previous meetings which were open to all often became overheated.

Leaked documents from July's meeting revealed proposals to sell land for luxury housing worth s10million, to help pay for the park's much-needed restoration.

Mrs Keen said: "Gunnersbury Park is a public space and it is absolutely ludicrous that the people of Brentford and Isleworth, and neighbouring Ealing, are excluded from the decision-making process.

"I understand that the possibility of building several luxury homes on the park has been mooted and, without the opportunity to see exactly what they're doing, I fear that we will wake up one morning to find a sea of concrete on our park."

A spokesman for Hounslow and Ealing councils said they were working on a 'master plan' to restore the park to its former glory but denied plans to sell off any of the park.
