More than 35 Marks & Spencer employees and customers helped give the Grand Union Canal, in Alperton, a spring clean last week as part of the company's Big Beach Clean-Up campaign.

Employees took part in the two-day clean-up operation on May 12 and 13 to help preserve wildlife and the environment.

The team cleared everything from food wrappers, cans and plastic bags to more unusual items such as an abandoned moped.

Volunteer co-ordinator from the Canal and River Trust, Debbie Vidler, said: "Today’s event has really helped to give the canal a spring clean and the team from M&S worked really hard, they cleared lots of rubbish.

“I’d really like to thank them for their help to make the canal an amazing place to visit.”
