At a local police meeting this week there was some good news that could help everyone in the borough to prevent crime or to help avoid crime.

The police and others have set up a scheme called CommunitySafe, where members (free to register) can get emails and text messages about emergency incidents in their area.

The residents in my area have been campaigning for this for a long time, since we wanted a similar system to one in Hounslow.

I registered to receive email alerts, which can come in the form of crime prevention information, police appeals and fire safety tips.

I want to publicise the system, which is done via the website, www.communitysafe.gov.uk
