Campaigners fighting to save a park have been given fresh hope after council chiefs announced plans to site a new high school at the Glaxo SmithKline Leisure Club.
The Ealing Central Sports Ground, in Perivale, had been the most likely location for the new classrooms, until the drugs company announced they were pulling out of Greenford yesterday - along with 800 jobs, which are due to move elsewhere.
The club in Oldfield Lane North is a valued venue for the community and Greenford Green councillor and town hall leader Jason Stacey said he is determined that remains the case.
He said negotiations for the council to purchase the site had not been finalised but were going well.
He added: "The idea is to keep the site for community use and the area is the perfect size for a high school.
"But the first thing we would need to do is to consult residents in the area and go from there."
