A RADIO DJ wants to help connect communities in a fight against discrimination by setting up a station for people with physical and learning disabilities.

David Braysher has been a DJ for hospital radio for six years, working at Hillingdon Hospital Radio, Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow and now Bedfordshire. He recently set up his own podcast service, No Barriers Radio, for people with disabilities.

Now Mr Braysher, who has built his own recording studio in his loft in Whiteheath Avenue, Ruislip, wants his No Barriers Radio station to stream live to listeners from shows recorded by people in their own homes.

Software exists that allows people to stream (web broadcast) live from their home.

“We are starting off really very small, but I want this to connect people from different boroughs so I want lots of people to do radio shows.

“What we want to try and do is get somebody who is enthusiastic, with technical know-how to help set up the live stream and the software for people with disabilities to present their shows from their own homes.

“It will mean almost anyone can do it.”

Mr Braysher, 53, is in the process of applying for a music licence which will allow DJs at No Barriers Radio to produce live music shows.

“It’s about bringing people together with disabilities and fighting discrimination,” he said.

“This is about giving disabled people a voice to say exactly what they want.”

At the moment the radio station relies on volunteers, but Mr Braysher, who has a learning disability, hopes that one day it could be set up as a limited company able to pay its presenters.
