A rescued terrier gave Brent Council's Animal Welfare Service a bit of a surprise when she unexpectedly gave birth to three puppies.

The little terrier was found in Brook Road on October 1 by a member of the public, who kept her for a couple of days before calling the Animal Welfare Service.

The officers discovered that the dog was not a stray,as she had a microchip fitted, but no one suspected she might be pregnant.

The microchip told the officers that the terrier's name was Sandy and it listed the address and telephone number of the owner. The number was immediately called and the officers also wrote to the address on the microchip but despite repeated efforts they have been unable to get in contact with the owner.

In the following days Sandy won the love of one of the officers, and was taken home by Rebekah Fearon to be looked after.

One evening while Rebekah was sitting on the sofa with Sandy watching Friends she noticed Sandy was acting unusually.

To Rebekah's surprise at around 8.15pm a puppy was born, followed later by two others.

The puppies have been called Craig, after Rebekah's manager at the Animal Welfare Center, and Phoebe and Joey, after the characters in Friends.
