Fulham turned pink to help raise money and awareness for breast cancer support charity The Haven.

The charity was set up in Fulham and has a strong following from businesses in the area who came out in force on Friday (October 24) to help raise funds for the centre in Effie Road which provides free support for women with breast cancer.

As part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the team from The Haven put pink balloons all over Fulham Broadway shopping centre and were selling cake pops and cupcakes, all beautifully decorated in pink.

Shoppers and commuters passing by lent their support by donating while Hammersmith and Fulham’s mayor, Mercy Umeh, donned her bright pink jacket.

She said: “I think it’s so important to support The Haven because breast cancer is something which affects women in particular and we need to promote woman and help them if they’re in this situation.

“It’s so easy to lose your confidence if you have breast cancer, especially if you have a mastectomy, so it’s great The Haven can support women as well as their families to make it easier. The Haven is a national charity but it started right here in Fulham - what a wonderful charity to have in our borough.”

Local businesses helped turn Fulham pink

Fulham businesses showed their support by donating proceeds of their products to the charity on the day and donating prizes for a raffle which have been selling over the past month in various businesses.

Pamela Healy, The Haven’s CEO, said: “Such support for a charity is hugely important and although we’re a national charity our head quarters are in Fulham and are very special to us because this is where we started. So many people passing by have been incredibly generous.

"We’re delighted Fulham businesses have supported The Haven by donating prizes and proceeds. Local support is vital for the charity as not only does it help raise important funds but it all helps spread the word about what we do to support people through the challenges breast cancer brings.”
