Fulham Football Club has sent a 'love letter' to a fan getting married to tell him they know 'we will always be number one in your heart'.

The club sent the tongue-in-cheek letter to Mark Wilby this Saturday (August 9) as he missed the Fulham vs Ipswich Town game to get married.

Fulham may have lost but at least the football lover was able to start his wedding day off with a smile.

The letter said: "On behalf of all the squad, management and staff, Fulham Football Club would like to wish you huge congratulations on your wedding day. We hope it's a truly memorable occasion and that you have many, many happy years with your new wife Lisa."

After the niceties, it then took on a cheeky tone, saying: "Whilst Lisa is absolutely amazing and almost perfect (her choice of Club aside), Fulham Football Club also knows that we will always be number one in your heart. There's no getting around it and we thought we should all just be honest about it, today of all days."

Mr Wilby tweeted a picture of the letter on Saturday and then another picture of the happy couple's cake topper showing the groom wearing a Fulham FC shirt and the bride wearing a QPR shirt.

The jokey letter then went on to say: "How you'll juggle Fulham and your wife successfully is down to you, and although you've missed the glamour tie that is Ipswich Town away this afternoon, we know we'll still see you down the Cottage every other Saturday from now on!"

It was signed off by 'Fulham Football Club (your true love)'.

His tweet has gone viral on twitter and has even been re-tweeted by fans in Germany.

Sarah Brookes, communications and marketing director at Fulham FC, said: "We are delighted Mark appreciated the letter and that his new wife Lisa embraced the spirit in which it was written.

"At Fulham we like to be a little bit different, and we will always try to ensure that our values as a friendly, family club come through in everything we do.

"We wish them many years of happiness together, and hope that Mark can convince Lisa at some point, to come over from the dark side, and join the Fulham family!"

Getwestlondon is waiting for the newly married Mr Wilby to get in touch.
