We always like to be first with the scoops so we're naturally excited about the launch of an ice cream shop-cum-art gallery in Isleworth .

Rowan Joyce opened The South Street Coffee Shop and Ice Cream Parlour, where avocado and lime, beetroot and eggnog are among the unusual flavours available, in 2012.

It has proved so popular she is now expanding to a second venue, The Ice Cream Workshop & South Street Gallery, in Lower Square, Isleworth, where local residents have been invited to sample the goods at a launch party next Friday (September 19).

Like her original venture, customers will be able to browse artwork by some of Isleworth's many creative inhabitants while enjoying the frozen treats on offer. But the new outlet will also feature a workshop where visitors can meet artists and watch them in action.

Ms Joyce, who dreams up the crazy ice cream flavours for her 22-year-old son Tom to create, said she wanted to give local artists a better showcase for their wares.

"People in Isleworth are incredibly creative. We already sell their produce, from doggy bandanas to jewellery and cards, but we wanted to go one step further," she said.

"Different artists will be making their pieces in the workshop each day so you cam see how they work and maybe commission a piece."

Ms Joyce, who used to work on the shop floor of Tie Rack, has two other children - Sam, aged 20, and Rosie, 16 - both of whom she joked were being 'groomed for a place in the empire'.

As well as opening a new shop, she is expanding into the wholesale sector, supplying local outlets with ice cream made at the new factory outlet.

The 51-year-old said she had been inspired to open her original coffee shop and gelateria after visiting the artisan ice cream parlour Gelupo in Soho.

"It was such a wonderful place and I thought 'why can't we have something like this in Isleworth," she said.

"I've never been massively keen on ice cream but it's something which makes people smile and it's really fun to work with.

"Our ice cream is typically about eight per cent fat compared with the heavier American brands, which are about 20 per cent fat, so it's healthier too."

The new venue is set over two units, one of which will be dedicated to ice cream production and sales, with the other given over to local artists and their art.

Brentford and Isleworth MP Mary Macleod is set to open the new premises next Friday at 7pm, when visitors will be able to enjoy a glass of wine and sample the ice cream.
